Summer is a great time to explore other styles of music that we often do not have time for in our weekly lessons. Let’s take advantage of the Summer and explore some fun fiddle styles, classic tunes, and basic accompaniment techniques! Students will learn in a “mother tongue” fashion and copy some fiddle gestures and short ideas that they can incorporate into their playing.

Also, incorporated in these camps is a focus on music theory. It can be hard to find time in our private lessons for theory instruction and yet it is so important to the informed violin player. Summer is a great time to level up our theory! We will explore interval and chord recognition both aurally and visually, chord function (level 2), dictation, scale types, and more.

As is fitting for a fiddle camp, we will also dive into the foundations of improvisation. Students will explore how to make melodies that appreciate various chord qualities, ex. major, minor, diminished, among others. They will also have improvisational opportunities to make up melodies to the accompaniment of the rest of the class playing a fiddle tune.
